Logistics Manager

My client, a leading provider of fresh produce to workplaces across Ireland, is seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to join their growing team! Due to internal promotion and development of the existing Logistics Manager, this exciting opportunity has arisen for a service focused & knowledgeable professional who is ready to take the next step in their career to join this fantastic company and develop personally and professionally.

The company provide a variety of food and beverages to their customers, including fresh milk deliveries, Fresh fruit, snacks, and other consumables for hot drinks, such as coffee beans, hot chocolate, sugar, tea bags etc. The delivery team is an integral part of the overall operation of the business and should run like clockwork daily. Having a mixture of both in house vehicles and drivers and external resources, allows the company to be ready for any turn of events, and having a dedicated logistics manager on the team ensures their clients expectations are met.

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years previous experience in either a logistics management or senior logistics planning role and have previous experience managing a team of drivers ranging between 15 and 20 team members, previous experience with planning and management of fresh food deliveries will be a big advantage in this role, along with the ability to plan, adapt, analyse, and make critical decisions.

 

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ previous experience in either a logistics manager role, senior logistics planning role, or logistics team lead role is essential.
  • An Educational background in Supply Chain would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience within the food and beverage industry is highly desirable.
  • Leadership skills are imperative, demonstrated ability to manage a team of multi-drop drivers is essential, the team size will be up to 20 and a combination of in-house and 3rd party drivers.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle check procedures, maintenance schedules, organising and planning routine and unplanned maintenance, planning of servicing and vehicle down-time.
  • Good geographical knowledge of Dublin and surrounding areas, previous experience with planning routes around traffic and in specific orders to improve efficiency.
  • Strong technical skills previous experience with go2stream or another route planning software would be favourable, PowerBI experience is desirable for the analysis side of the role.
  • Able to use all Microsoft and Google products, strong time management and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Confident to work as part of a cross functioning team and leader with various departments including warehouse, customer services, driver support etc.
  • Previous experience with onboarding new drivers into the team, conducting license checks and providing training on company equipment is required.
  • Must have a valid drivers license, able to drive long wheel base vans (class B) no more than 6 points on the licence and no DR or IN endorsements.

 

The Role:

  • Leading the most important cog in the company machine, you will be responsible for all aspects of ensuring on-time, professional deliveries to clients across Dublin and further afield.
  • Managing a team of up to 20 drivers, both in house and 3rd party, you will plan routes in advance to ensure deliveries are made on time and in an efficient and cost-effective manner using go2stream route planning software.
  • Provide analysis of driver performance, cost performance, customer satisfaction and produce reports to the operations team, using PowerBI to obtain and analyse information.
  • Develop and manage the driver rota, always ensuring adequate cover and accounting for holidays and unplanned absence.
  • Monitor the runs on a daily basis and address any issues with the days deliveries with the drivers directly.
  • Planning and forecasting for special events, such as bank holidays and other national holidays where delivery days are shifted, and delivery schedules have more demand.
  • Oversee any delays in deliveries, analyse the reason for the delay and plan to ensure that the risk of delays in the future are mitigated.
  • Keep in constant communication with the drivers and the customer service and driver support teams, helping to resolve issues, understanding current issues, and help to problem-solve and find solutions to ongoing or reoccurring issues.
  • Day to day management of both in house drivers and 3rd party drivers, performance review, improvement plans where needed, liaising with the team lead regarding new hires and current drivers performance and conducting 1:1’s ascertaining bonus eligibility etc.
  • Ensure return processes are followed by the team.
  • Complete daily debrief with drivers.
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed and kept in order (Vehicle checks, time sheets etc)
  • Take part in the hiring process with new drivers, sitting in on interviews, onboarding, training on processes and monitoring of performance.
  • Any other duties as required.

 

The drivers start at 5am to load up their vehicles and start their runs to ensure timely morning deliveries, the drivers usually complete 50-60 deliveries per day on a route they are assigned to regularly and know well.
Logistics management team members start at 8am in the office, however, in the absence of the driver team lead or warehouse team lead, the logistics manager may be required to answer questions and deliver solutions via phone from 5 am. The logistics manager may also be required to assist with emergency cover for the driver (rarely)
